Since 2004, SHOP ‘n SAVE has been a benefactor to the ACW and we have been greatly blessed by them.  But, come November 21, 2018, the doors of their 19 stores in our community will be closed.  Over the years, I have walked the aisles at SHOP ‘n SAVE thousands of times and, during that time, they have donated to over four hundred families that were in real need.  And on our recommendation, they have also employed many unemployed we’ve sent to them.

SHOP ‘n SAVE has been a blessing not only by their giving, but also by the spirit in which they gave.  Many companies are merging or going out of business, creating monopolies in communities.  This is regrettable, but we live in a fast moving social media world where not much is sacred and vicious rumors can tear down both small and great.

What pains the ACW most is the more than 2,000 loyal employees that will be out of work--some who have given more than 30 years of service to SHOP ‘n SAVE.  Some of them now worry that they are too old to get further employment.

Over the years SHOP ‘n SAVE has been a bargain store.  Their name says it all--SHOP ‘n SAVE!  It says that all the other supermarkets could not compete.  Perhaps this was part of their demise.  But the ACW is grateful for their patronage and support. Their reputation in the community is impeccable.  We are proud to have been associated with them.

Even in their closing, they opened their hearts with a donation to twenty families recommended by the church. While many of you in other parts of the world may not be familiar with SHOP ‘n SAVE, those who visited the Good Shepherd Cathedral were all blessed by their generosity.  We ask that you remember the owners and, especially the out of work former employees, that God will watch over them and bless them for the many seeds of hope and financial assistance they planted in our midst.

Thank you SHOP “N” & SAVE.  You have touched many lives in our community and around the world, and we pray that God's blessings will be returned to you ten-fold!

Abp. Hartley
