Patriarch's Vision > Faithfulness

2 Oct 2019

When I think of the word “faithfulness,” I first always think of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Then I remember mu earthly father, the late Rev’d Cornelius McGuire.  He passed from this life to his rest awaiting the Great Resurrection just two months after I was ordained at Good Shepherd.  In the three days between his death and the funeral, I decided to write the story of his life in a song, which I sang at his funeral in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  I hope you will be blessed by the lyrics.

                                Faithfulness              J. David McGuire, Aug. 6, 2010

At age fifteen he married Mom, a girl of just fourteen.

They thought they’d get an early start on life.

They raised two girls and five strong boys, and all of them had dreams.

A really tough assignment for one guy.

No it wasn’t easy, the money wasn’t great,

But God provided everything by grace.

Dad tried to just stay pleasing to God in every way.

His faithfulness kept his heart in place.

He got a good job working at the General Hardware Store—

He had to make a living for his brood.

He worked his way on up to sales and then he worked some more.

He worked like he was working for the Lord.

He had the call of God upon his heart to go and preach

The message so important to the world.

His preaching stirred the hearts of men and trained his boys and girls,

Each one of them, now servants of the Lord.

No it wasn’t easy, the money wasn’t great,

But God provided everything by grace.

Dad tried to just stay pleasing to God in every way.

His faithfulness kept his heart in place.

Patriarch Bp. J. David McGuire, DD
